Manuel Vicente was born in Lisbon in 1934. He graduated from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (1962) and received a Masters in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, studying under Louis Kahn (1969).
Aside from working on his projects, Manuel Vicente has been teaching since 1960, and has taken on responsibilities in representative professional bodies, including the Association of Portuguese Architects (where he was a member of the Founding Committee, from 1975 to 1977), and the Order of Architects (assuming the position of vice president from 2002 to 2007).
In 1998, he was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit by the then President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio. He has passed away in 9th of March of 2013, at the age of 78.
